Choosing the Right Position

A successful TV installation begins with selecting the correct location and mounting height. The television should be comfortable to watch from your normal seating position, while also taking the room layout, furniture, windows and potential glare into account.

Before installation, we assess the wall construction and check that the chosen bracket and fixings are suitable for the television. We regularly install TVs onto brick, plasterboard, timber-framed and feature walls, as well as above fireplaces where the position and heat levels are suitable.

A flat-to-wall bracket is ideal when you want the television to sit as close to the wall as possible. This creates a neat, streamlined appearance and works particularly well with modern slim televisions.

Depending on the bracket and TV model, some flat brackets can also provide a small amount of tilt. This may improve the viewing angle when the television is mounted slightly higher than usual, such as above a fireplace.

A full-motion bracket allows the television to extend away from the wall, swivel from side to side and tilt. This is useful in open-plan rooms, kitchens and bedrooms where the TV may need to be viewed from different positions.

Because a full-motion bracket places additional leverage on the wall, selecting the correct fixings and mounting points is especially important. Our installers make sure the bracket is securely fitted and suitable for the size and weight of the television.

Surface-mounted trunking is a practical and cost-effective way to conceal TV cables without cutting into the wall. Power, HDMI, aerial and data cables can be routed neatly inside the trunking between the television and the equipment below.

Modern trunking can provide a tidy finish and can often be painted to blend in with the wall. This method is particularly useful in rented properties or rooms where the customer wants to minimise disruption. 

It’s easy to move, paint or add extra cables and is quick and simple to install. 

For the cleanest possible finish, we can cut into the wall and install the cables inside it. This method allows us to conceal power, HDMI, aerial, satellite and network cabling so that no wires are visible between the television and the equipment below. We can raggle (cut and fill) pretty much any length so it’s really what is suitable for you, there aren’t any constraints as to the distance. 

Once the cables are in position, the wall is reinstated and filled, ready for final sanding and decoration by the customer or their decorator.

As to be expected, this type of job takes longer, is generally messier and is best done when you’re ready to decorate or you have a decorator nearby. 

The exact method depends on whether the wall is plasterboard, brick or another construction, so we assess each property before beginning the work.

Installing Power Behind the Television

A wall-mounted television looks best when there are no visible power leads. Where required, we can arrange for a suitable socket or fused connection unit to be installed behind the TV, subject to the existing electrical installation and site conditions. This can be done for both the TV and Soundbar if required. 

Planning the power position carefully helps the television sit correctly on the bracket without plugs or cables preventing it from resting close to the wall.

Soundbars and Additional Equipment

Our service can also include mounting a soundbar directly below the television, either onto the wall or using a compatible soundbar bracket. We can connect streaming devices, games consoles, satellite receivers and other equipment, then test everything to make sure it is working correctly. You could also add a subwoofer and some rear speakers if you want a real home-cinema feel! 

If your equipment is being stored in a cabinet away from the television, we can install suitable HDMI and network cabling between the two locations. Using the correct cables is particularly important for 4K and high-quality audio systems.

Installing a television above a fireplace can create an attractive focal point, but the location must be assessed carefully. We consider the construction of the wall, the proposed viewing height, cable routes and the potential heat produced by the fireplace.
